General Job Description:
Under supervision of certified teaching staff, provide piano accompaniment for choirs, small groups and other musical performers throughout the school year. Assists with encouraging students and instilling a sense of accomplishment, confidence and fun.
Essential Job Elements:
- Assist the teacher with school choirs during rehearsals by playing vocal parts and piano accompaniment.
- Live accompany the choirs during school concerts, large group festivals, solos, ensembles, etc. depending upon need and the availability of the accompanist.
- Assist with school musical plays during the music rehearsal period.
- Set an example for the students by being prepared with the music, being dependable and by reporting to class, rehearsals and performances promptly.
- Promptly report any accident or illness affecting students in the Accompanist’s charge or any other reportable or serious incident which might affect the school, teachers or students therein.
- Take all responsible precautions to ensure the health and safety of students and to safeguard equipment, materials and facilities.
- Monitors students during brief periods of teacher absence.
- Assist with general classroom housekeeping duties.
- Attends staff meetings, conferences, training and other meetings as requested.
- May substitute for a teacher as needed with an Arizona Substute Teacher Certification.
- Maintains an attitude and work environment that generates, collaboration and caring.
- Assures compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state and local codes, regulations and requirements.
- Support and work effectively with supervisor and other administrators.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
- Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to play the piano proficiently at an intermediate level.
- Elligible for Arizona Substitute Teacher Certificate preferred.
- Related experience and/or training preferred.
- Good communication skills.
Mental Tasks:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as musical scores and related materials proficiently. Ability to listen and obtain clarification, record and deliver information, explain procedures, gather and analyze information, identify problems and solutions and to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to apply appropriate artistic interpretation to musical rehearsals and performances. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
Physical Tasks:
Work involves the performance of duties where significant physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Depending on the specific assignment, assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, playing the piano at an intermediate skill level and moving from one location to another. Visual and/or aural weakness must not prohibit the effective performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required in certain situations.
Working Conditions:
Indoor – classroom environment, performance and concert settings. Periodic travel to other cities, schools and performance venues by bus, van or automobile.
