General Description:

Under general supervision, formulate, articulate, coordinate, and administer programs of athletics and other student activities and help to ensure they meet the assessed needs of students. Assist with the oversight of coaches and other event personnel. Ensure compliance with school, state and federal rules, laws, policies, etc. as well as those of other agencies and organizations that affect school activities. Ensure that events flow as smoothly as possible. Handle stressful situations involving students, parents, officials and the general public while maintaining composure. Demonstrate commitment to integrity and to the welfare of students.

 

Essential Job Elements:

  1. Administer the athletic programs in a manner that maintains the highest standards of excellence and compliments the stature of the district's instructional program.
  2. Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community and media aware of and responsive to the athletic program.  This includes maintaining the schools athletics/activities facebook page along with coordination of live streaming events.
  3. Interview and recommend to the principal prospective coaches and athletic department staff members.  In so far as coaching and teaching positions are many times tied together, the selection of a coach-teacher will be a joint responsibility of the principal, the superintendent, and the athletic director.
  4. Oversee athletic department requisitions and recommend the purchase of athletic equipment and supplies.  Set the standards for issuance, care, and inventory of equipement and supplies.
  5. Assess the effectiveness of coaching performance and institute procedures to isolate factors to make changes to improve the accomplishments of adopted goals and objectives.
  6. Develop, interpret, and make recommendations for athletic policy in cooperation with the coaches and principal.
  7. Articulate and implement the teaching of basic ethical relationships in achievement of the goals and objectives of the district athletic programs.
  8. Coordinate game supervision and be accountable for the financial aspects of all home contests and activities generating activity revenues.
  9. Hold regular coaches meetings/trainings for athletic program improvement.
  10. Organize and assign all crowd control responsibilities to event staff.
  11. Represent school administration and serve as the school authority on duty for athletic events and other Junior/Senior High School activities.
  12. Supervise coaches in maximizing practice sessions and coordinate the athletic program between junior high school and high school.
  13. Coordinate concession stand functions.
  14. Organize and oversee Interscholastic tournaments.
  15. Ensure that the athletic department (including student-athletes and coaches) abide by the rules and policies of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).
  16. Schedule all games (and officials for junior high events).
  17. Schedule fields and gyms with the community for their use. 
  18. Attend state, conference, and region AIA meetings.  Attend White Mountain League meetings (for junior high).
  19. Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
  20. Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Department of Education requirements and Governing Board policies.
  21. Supports with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City School.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Five years teaching/coaching or administrative experience.
  2. Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  3. Leadership skills sufficient to effectively perform assigned duties.
  4. Ability to calmly handle stressful situations involving parents, students, etc.
  5. Communication skills sufficient to effectively perform assigned duties.
  6. Other qualifications may vary by assignment.

 

Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing, walking, moving, climbing stairs.  Ability to handle stressful situations which require calm and reasonable responses.

 

Working Conditions:

Employee may regularly work both indoors and outdoors. Noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints and interact effectively with students, game officials, other employees, and public.
