General Description:

 

The Speech-Language Pathologist will perform consultative duties designated by the Special Services Director which enhance speech-language proficiency, communicative effectiveness and academic success of identified students. The pathologist will also effectively manage the learning environment to plan and implement appropriate treatment plans to minimize adverse impact on student success, instruct identified students, and evaluate and monitor student performance in order to advance student achievement.

  1. Evaluate and diagnose specific speech and/or language and swallowing deficits of referred students in the district.
  2. Conduct IEP meetings independently when speech therapy is the only service identified, acting as the case manager.
  3. Develop a speech-language IEP which assesses student needs and performance.
  4. Design goals, objectives, and timelines for appropriate school-related speech-language therapy services for eligible students. Modify instruction to meet the needs of each child.
  5. Prepare lesson plans and instruct students in accordance with student need.
  6. Plan instruction and implement instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  7. Establish, maintain and promote an atmosphere which ensures the emotional and physical safety and well being of students and emphasizes mutual respect, self-worth, self-discipline, cooperation, consideration and responsibility.
  8. Monitor and document student progress with appropriate students, staff, parents, and other members of the school-based team.
  9. Prepare and submit accurate and appropriate evaluations, screenings, and reports in a professional and timely manner.
  10. Ensure parents are informed of evaluation methods used in the classroom and of student progress.
  11. Collaborate with teachers, other staff, and related service providers in order to develop a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of their students.
  12. Train district staff/aides in reinforcing IEP goals, but not directly supervise them and participate in staff and other required meetings to share and receive information and training.
  13. Maintain confidentiality standards as defined by local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  14. Adhere to ASHA Code of Ethics, State/District Guidelines, and policies and procedures regarding conduct and requirements and ensure student and staff safety by reviewing and adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  15. Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Department of Education requirements and Governing Board policies.
  16. Complete reporting and paperwork required by District, State, and Federal Government.
  17. Participate in at least 8 hours of yearly continuing education and professional growth experiences.
  18. Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned whether related to speech-language services or, generally, as an employee of Joseph City Schools.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) accredited university
  2. Certification/licensure with Arizona Department of Education and Arizona Department of Health, including National Provider Number, registration with ACCCHS
  3. Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  4. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the ASHA is preferred.

 

Mental Tasks:

 

Read and communicate verbally and in writing. Analyze and evaluate student progress and treatment plans. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Promote learning and ensure safety. Perform functions from written and oral instructions and from observing and listening to others. Evaluate written materials to include written assignments and tests.

 

Physical Tasks:

 

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability. Uses audio-visual equipment, including computers and related technology, marker boards, bulletin boards, copiers and printers. May use hand tools, office equipment and machinery.
