Specific Information:

 

General Description:

Ensure students are transported safely to and from school, athletic events, field trips and other school activities. Ability to be available for after-hours assignments. Report problems and exercise care to ensure buses are functioning properly and safe for students, staff and the public.

 

Essential Job Elements:

  1. Drives a bus, van or other vehicle on assigned route.
  2. Ensures children are delivered to proper drop-off points. Determines if children are met at destination points by authorized parent or guardian, as needed.
  3. Follows established schedule and routes as assigned.
  4. Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
  5. Maintains cleanliness of vehicle.
  6. Fuels bus when needed.
  7. May operate wheel chair lift and ensure children are safely secured on the bus or van, as needed. Loads and unloads children who are confined to wheelchairs.
  8. Instructs students on bus safety and discipline.
  9. Maintains discipline and order of students and other passengers while on the bus.
  10. Refers parent complaints or discipline problems to supervisor and/or principal.
  11. Maintains daily logs of inspections, mileage and students transported.
  12. Attends mandatory in-service and training meetings.
  13. Communicates with school personnel as needed, such as with Principals, Teachers, Monitors and Teacher Assistants.
  14. Maintains a high level of professionalism.
  15. Support and work effectively with supervisor and other administrators.
  16. Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
  17. Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Good driving record.
  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Requirements After Hire:

  1. Valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and current Arizona School Bus Driver Certificate. Training is provided by the District.
  2. Post-offer/pre-employment – ADOT Medical Certificate with Lift Test (at employee’s expense).
  3. Post-offer/pre-employment – Drug/alcohol screen.
  4. Proof of immunity to rubella (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
  5. Fingerprint background check.
  6. First aid and CPR certificates.

 

Physical Requirements:

Work involves the performance of duties where considerable physical exertion is required as a normal part of the job. Assistance is normally available to perform unusually physically demanding tasks. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds for up to 50 yards. Climbing, stooping, bending reaching, walking and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Employees must not have any limitations of motion, and vision and hearing should be rated as acceptable to obtain the required driver’s license. Verbal communicative skills required. Uses radio equipment. Operates a standard or automatic transmission motor vehicle.

Exposure to noise. Exposure to dust, gas and fumes. Exposure to all weather/climate conditions and temperatures. Interact with students, other employees, and public.
