General Description:

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of transportation operations within the school district. This position requires strong leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of student transportation services.

 

Essential Job Elements:

  1. Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of transportation staff, including bus drivers, monitors, and mechanics.
  2. Implement transportation policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as district guidelines.
  3. Schedule and route school buses to optimize efficiency while ensuring timely arrival and departure of students.
  4. Ensures daily logs of inspections, mileage and students transported are maintained.
  5. Conduct regular inspections of buses and other transportation vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and address any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  6. Makes recommendations regarding the fleet condition and replacement schedule for fleet vehicles.
  7. Manage driver training programs, including initial training for new hires and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  8. Maintain accurate records of bus routes, driver assignments, vehicle maintenance, and transportation-related expenses.
  9. Collaborate with school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders to address concerns, resolve issues, and improve transportation services.
  10. Monitor and enforce student behavior and safety protocols on buses, ensuring a positive and secure environment for all passengers.
  11. Stay informed about changes in transportation laws, regulations, and best practices, and ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
  12. Drives a bus, van or other vehicle as needed.
  13. Attends all required trainings and meetings.
  14. Communicates with school personnel as needed, such as with Principals, Teachers, Monitors and Teacher Assistants.
  15. Maintains a high level of professionalism.
  16. Support and work effectively with staff and other administrators.
  17. Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
  18. Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and current Arizona School Bus Driver Certificate.
  2. Previous experience in transportation operations, preferably in a school district or similar setting.
  3. Knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
  4. Proficiency in computer software applications preferred, including transportation management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. High school diploma or equivilent.
  6. Good driving record.
  7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Requirements After Hire:

  1. Bus Driver Trainer certification
  2. Post-offer/pre-employment – ADOT Medical Certificate with Lift Test (at employee’s expense).
  3. Post-offer/pre-employment – Drug/alchohol screen.
  4. Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
  5. Level 1 Fingerprint background check.
  6. First aid and CPR certificates. 

Physical Requirements:

Work involves the performance of duties where considerable physical exertion is required as a normal part of the job. Assistance is normally available to perform unusually physically demanding tasks. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds for up to 50 yards. Climbing, stooping, bending reaching, walking and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Employees must not have any limitations of motion, and vision and hearing should be rated as acceptable to obtain the required driver’s license. Verbal communicative skills required. Uses radio equipment. Operates a standard or automatic transmission motor vehicle.

Communicates, comprehends, performs functions from written and oral instructions and from observing others.
