General Description:
Under general supervision, provide overall maintenance for school buildings, grounds and other District facilities. Maintain and repair facility infrastructure, systems and related equipment, tools and other components as assigned. Uses skilled construction trades in performing work as needed. Assist other departments and functional areas as directed. Able to solve problems and work independently. Ability to be available for after-hours emergencies. Help ensure facilities are functioning properly and safe for students, staff and the public.
Essential Job Elements:
This position may perform any of the following duties:
- Performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs to facilities, buildings, grounds, playground equipment, including infrastructure and systems such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire alarms, cabinetry, doors, locks, windows, walls, boilers, chillers, etc.
- Inspects buildings, equipment, playground equipment and other systems regularly to ensure they are safe and function properly.
- Performs advanced skilled crafts work in one or more specialties such as electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC mechanical, electrical motor repair, welding, carpentry, boilers, etc.
- Responds to District emergencies and after-hours repair situations as needed.
- May lead or direct the work of others, as necessary.
- Performs minor remodeling, construction and general carpentry work.
- Replaces lights, breakers, fuses, ballast, switches, plumbing fixtures, motors, pumps, etc., as needed.
- Completes work orders and communicates the status of projects clearly with supervisor, administrators and other staff.
- Maintain an accurate record of work performed, materials used, preventive maintenance tasks and the condition of building systems and equipment.
- Maintan an inventory of all tools and equipment within area of responsibility.
- Drive service vehicles, transport equipment and supplies to various locations, load and unload materials and supplies as needed.
- Work with vendors and contractors to complete projects, resolve problems and facilitate work.
- Assures compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state and local codes, regulations and requirements.
- Coordinate and work cooperatively with other departments and staff as needed.
- Oversee contractors, student, seasonal and intern workers, and other staff as needed.
- Support and work effectively with supervisor and other administrators.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
- Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Successful work experience in maintenance or related trades.
- Advanced skills or training in maintenance or construction trade specialties as needed for the specific assignment.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching,
handling, pushing, pulling and driving an automobile, pickup truck or other machinery. Strenuous manual labor, overhead work, work in confined spaces and at heights and ability to lift 75 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. Repetative motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
Working Conditions:
Employee regularly works both indoors and outdoors. Works with or near motorized tools and mechanical equipment. Occasionally works in high areas such as on rooftops, lifts or scaffolding, and in confined spaces. Noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high. Regularly subject to vibrations, mechanical and electrical hazards. Occasionally subject to fumes and dust. Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals and loud noise. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints and interact with students, other employees, and public.
